Women who Celebrate: Treat YO Self Challenge with Shenee Howard

July 10, 2013

Welcome to the Women who Celebrate series. Women who Celebrate seeks to unleash the sheer beauty of the celebratory spirit. In conceiving of the project, I wanted to share the simple truths of how celebration can shift the trajectory of your life, allowing in more permission, more joy, and more ease.

In thinking about how to amplify some gorgeous energy around this idea, I thought it would be fabulous to interview some women that that exude a celebratory vibe about how they incorporate the act of celebrations into their daily life, what these types of rituals and ceremonies look like, and (most importantly) the positive impact of women celebrating together.

And – I’m talking equally about huge, sparkly affairs with champagne and the simple everyday act of cooking ourselves a special breakfast. The extraordinary and the ordinary. What is really notable here for me is how it can be so difficult to invite others into our celebrations or ask other so celebrate with us, and that sharing this aspect of our lives will be both inspiring and hugely permissive for everyone involved.

SheneeBTCToday’s guest is the phenomenal Shenee Howard.  Shenee is THE branding expert for undeniably mindblowing, awe-inspiring ( profitable) brands. She teaches. She strategizes. She helps you become truly unforgettable online (you are already FABULOUS in person).

Shenee is also that genius behind Treat YO SELF Tuesday, a ritual that exudes such celebratory flair, I simply had to ask her to share her secrets with us! Find Shenee in her online home over at Hey Shenee!  Or, join her in conversation on twitter or Facebook.

The Treat YO SELF Challenge

I don’t know about you but I SUCK at giving myself the things I want. For a really long time I was in survival/Iambroke mode, so much so that I would think twice about buying a MAGAZINE. WHAT?! I was working my ASS off and instead of celebrating, I bought some takeout and then went back in and started working again.

Needless to say this isn’t a great way to live. Instead of feeling AWESOME about my accomplishments, I stopped even realizing that they were happening.

Womp. Womp.

That is when I created a new tradition. TREAT YO SELF TUESDAY.

I was inspired to create the holiday after watching one of my favorite shows, Parks and Recreation.

Here is a link to get you excited:

Every Tuesday I do something special for myself. For me, it’s a great way to reward myself for all my hard work AND actually take time to actually experience the fruits of my labor.

I don’t know about you but I am one of those people who used my money in 3 different ways.

1. Rent 2. Food 3. Dog food

And so it took some training for me to start going beyond that and buying things for me.

So, how do you create your OWN Treat YO Self Tuesday?

It’s easy! Every Tuesday buy something special for yourself.

Yep, it’s that easy.

This was a HUGE challenge for me at first so I started by giving myself a price range and worked up from there. So for example, you could say:

Once you do that something super special for yourself, SPREAD THE WORD! Scream it to the mountain tops.

For example:

Why? Because EVERYONE should treat themselves every once and a while and this starts the treat yo self revolution.

So, in conclusion, Treat Yo Self Tuesday in 3 Steps:

1. Pick something you want to buy

2. Buy it

You f-ing deserve it, hottie!

Gonna start treating yourself? I wanna KNOW! Email me at oh@heyshenee.com or find me on twitter @heyshenee and start telling me about all the ways you are doing goooood.

No, seriously. I wanna know!

The requisite celebratory questions…

What does celebration mean to you? Celebration is all about honoring what you are doing! It’s so easy to ignore progress, no matter how small.

How do you get yourself into the celebratory spirit? TREAT YO SELF TUESDAY!

What do you think is most important about women celebrating together? There is NOTHING better than a dance party, right? The more we celebrate each other, the happier and more kick ass we will be!
